Aliko Dangote of Nigeria has retained his position as the richest person in Africa as he tops Forbes 2026 Africa Billionaires lists, ranking with an estimated networth of $28.5billion, as African continent richest people added over $20billion to their fortune in the past one year.
The current Forbes ranking that was released on Monday 9th March, 2026. Shows that Africa’s 23-member billionaires club is now worth $126.7 billion combined, which represents a 21% increase from 2025, driven by stronger market equity and improving to stability of currencies across various African economies.
The wealth of Aliko Dangote was boosted by a high rise in Dangote’s Cement shares, which increased following the company’s record profits in the year 2025. The Second in ranking was South African luxury goods tycoon Johan Rupert with an estimated networth of $16.1 billion.
Abdulsamad Rabiu of Nigeria had an outstanding performance amongst all other billionaires in the list, rising to 3rd position in the list. His fortune increased by 120% to $11.2 billion, powered by the exceptional performance of the shares of BUA cement during the year. With four billionaires in the list from Nigeria, the African giant maintained a strong presence on the list of the billionaire’s ranking in Africa. The billionaires includes; Dangote, Rabiu of BUA, Mike Adenuga with $6.5 billion networth, and Femi Otedola with an estimated networth of $1.3 billion.
South Africa was leading in the list with 7 billionaires, followed by Egypt which has 5 billionaires, Nigeria third with 4 billionaires and Morocco with three. 14 billionaires out of the 23 billionaires on the list are self-made. Notably, they was no woman listed in the ranking. Forbes attributed the overall wealth increase to stronger regional currencies and improved confidence of investors across major African markets.
