New IGP Tunji issues warning to police officers, says the will be no sacred cows. Ranks, seniority, or positions will offer no protection.

 

The New Inspector General of Police, Disu Tunji, has stated that his administration will not allow any form of misconduct from police officers. 

The IGP who was sworn in by President Tinubu into office, while speaking at a police function on March 4th 2026, stated clearly that officers that are found Culpable of any form of misconduct will be prosecuted or dismissed where necessary. The IGP also pointed out that seniority or rank of any officer may not guarantee them an absorb if the officer is found wanting.

In his statement, the IGP said, “ We will enforce the rule of law and strengthen the moral authority upon which effective policing is built. We will strengthen our internal accountability mechanism, which was insulated and revitalized from undue influences. Provost of the force, we will also empower the compliant Response unit to operate decisively, independently and without fear or Favor in investigating misconducts. This message must be clear, no officer is above the law. The citizens must feel safe and encouraged to report wrongdoings and officers must understand that loyalty to the Police command does not extend to covering misconduct or tolerating indiscipline. He also said that Under this Leadership, there will be no sacred cows, seniority, ranks or positions will not offer protection. That Officers found culpable will be made to face swift disciplinary action including prosecution or dismissal where applicable. 

The IGP continued, saying that this administration will act firmly, fairly and transparently to curb misconduct, reinforce and restore discipline, and also to restore trust of the public In the Nigerian Police Force”.
