141 Young Nigerians arrested in Ghana over wire fraud, romance scam, and s3xtotion.




141 Nigerian citizens have been arrested in Ghana over their alleged involvement in cyber crime, including mobile money fraud, s3xtotion, romance scam, and business email compromise scams in Ghana.

The arrests were made in the early hours of Saturday morning being December 27, 2025 following a coordinated intelligence-led swoop in the Tabora and Lashibi suburbs of Accra, the capital of Ghana.

The arrests followed a coordinated early-morning operation carried out by the cyber security authorities of Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana police services, Ghana Immigration service and National Security.

The Ghana minister for communications, Digital technology and innovations, George Nartey Samul, who made the announcement in a statement said 100 suspects were arrested in Tabora while the remaining 41 suspects were arrested in Lashibi, all of whom are believed to be Nigerian citizens.

Law Enforcement Agencies also recovered 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones suspected to have been used in carrying out cyber-related financial crimes operations.

The minister revealed that during the operation, that a Ghanaian Landlord who allegedly accommodated about 100 of them was also apprehended.

The suspects were allegedly involved in offenses like wire frauds, s3xtotion, mobile money fraud, romance scams, and business email compromise.

The statement read, “This morning, the cyber security Authority in Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana Police service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service HQ, conducted a coordinated early morning operation targeting organized cyber crime networks involved in Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud and business E-mail compromise (BEC) scams.

The Intelligence-led operation was carried out across key locations in Lashibi and Tabora. During the operations, 41 people were arrested in Lashibi, while 100 others were arrested in Tabora, resulting in a total of 141 arrests.

“Preliminary investigations shows that the suspects were believed to be Nigerian citizens. Law enforcement agencies recovered 150 mobile phones and also 38 laptops, suspected to have been used in the commission of cyber-enabled financial crimes”.

“The team also apprehended the Ghanaian landlord who accommodated 100 of the suspects in his house in Tabora. Landlords have a duty to ensure that their premises are not used to perpetuate or facilitate crimes.

“The suspects are alleged to have been involved in a lot of criminal activities, including; Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud, s3xtotion, Romance scams, Business Email Compromise (BEC) wire fraud.”

“Forensic analysis of the seized devices are still ongoing, and individuals found culpable will be processed in accordance with Ghana law. We urge the Public to remain vigilant, report suspicious digital activities, and continue to support national efforts to combat cybercrime”.

“Ghana remains welcoming to all our friends and neighbours interested in legitimate enterprise. However, if you’re interested in committing a cybercrime, we will find you, arrest you, and deal with you decisively according to the Law”, he said.
