Singer Akon's $6billion futuristic Africa city project has been issued deadline by government authorities to begin commencement of the city project.
The planned city idea that was brought by Akon in 2020, about 4years ago has only a single arched concrete block on the site to show for it.
Senegal's state-owned tourism and coastal development entity, Sapco-Senegal,has nos issued an ultimatum to singer Akon; State construction, or forfeit 90% of the land allocated for the project. The notice comes after the singer's failure to make several payments to Sapco, according to an insider who spoke to bloomberg.
Akon's plans for the city involves, a resort, luxury apartments, hospitals, a university and a police station. All underpinned by the Akoin cryptocurrency launch during a cryptocurrency market boom in the year 2020.Nevertheless, Akoin has seen a dramatic decline in the value, with trading volumes dropping from $0.15 to just $0.003.
The singers ambitious city in senegal received suppots from West Africa nation by getting 136 acres of land in 2020 for the development of the futuristic city, designed like a real life wakanda, which was inspired by the Black panther movie then.
The Skin city was intended to be a beacon of innovation and sustainability. During it's launch, Akon presented the project as a catalyst for economic development in Senegal, and that it would create a lot of employment opportunities, and bring modern infrastructures to the country too.
Local Authorities, who initially hopeful that Akon city would bring economic revitalization to the region, are increasingly growing skeptal.
