The Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, joined the President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, to receive the American Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Richard M. Mills, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Senator Nwebonyi called for stronger collaboration between the United States and the Nigerian government in combating insurgency, stressing that insecurity knows no boundaries, religious affiliations, or political considerations. He described insecurity as a hydra-headed monster that brings harm to all.
The Senator reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic background. He also highlighted the President’s bold economic reforms, noting that poverty remains a major precursor to insecurity and must be decisively addressed.
The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations between the United States of America and Nigeria, while deepening cooperation in the fight against insurgency and other security challenges confronting the nation.
