JUST IN: The Nigeria Senate makes move to create new state,Tiga, from Kano.

 

A new state may be created soon as a bill has been presented to the Nigeria Senate to create a state, Tiga from Kano.

The bill which was sponsored by Senator Suileman Kawu Abdurrahman from Kano south had it first reading on Wednesday 10th July, 2024. 

The bill, which is titled "Constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Alteration) creation of Tiga state Bill, 2024 (SB523)", aims to split Kano into two separate states, with Tiga being added to the country's political map.

Recall that the senate received a bill recently to create a new state of Anioma in the Southeastern region of the country, which was sponsored by Senator Ned Nwoko from Delta north.

Also bill have been presented to the senate about the creation of Orlu state, which was sponsored by senator Osita Izunaso and representative Ugochinyere Ikenga, and Etiti state sponsored by representative Amobi Godwin Ogah and four other lawmakers from affected communities.

They are also calls for the creation of new state from Lagos and other parts of the country.
