A Lagos State socio-cultural organisation, The De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, has written to Governor Babajide Sanwuolu to clear the air
on issues surrounding the alleged purchase of $100 million purchase of 7000 acres of land which Aliko Dangote built his large refinery.Local oil marketers and traders in Nigeria call on Dangote refinery to adopt fairer business practices amid allegations of market preferential treatment and monopoly for foreign buyers.
The Leaders of the group are demanding an explanation from the Governor of the state who received the money, through whose account and how the funds were expended.
According to the group, over 7,000 acres of land was taken from resident natives in the ibeju-Lekki areas without any compensation to the people, they also said that before Dangote's recent expose, the narratives of the whole thing was that the land was taken from the natives and given to the industrialist by the former administration at no cost to attract the massive refinery project to the state.
In the letter that was jointly signed by the President of the group, Adeniji-Adele Aelani, and their secretary general Tokosi Yomi, at the weekend, the group requested the Governor to provide clarifications on the alleged $100million transaction, especially for the host communities in Ibeju/Lekki, which reportedly has not received basic amenities or compensation.
It therefore called for a response within seven days and warned that failure to comply would result in seeking for an order of mandamus in court or approach the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against the state government.
